Aja unfortunatel was a puppy mill brood bitch. Most likely she was bred starting from her first heat. We can’t say for sure how many litters Aja has had in her 6 years, but it’s definitely more than one. Shortly after Aja had her last litter of five puppies, the owner of the puppy mill died. A total of 13 Akitas, including Aja and her puppies, were turned over to a West Virginia animal shelter. ARMAC performed an evaluation of the Akitas, made recommendations to the shelter, and arranged for Aja and her puppies to move into an experienced foster home.  Aja and the puppies did very well.  Eventually the puppies were weaned and it was time for three of them to go to their forever homes. Aja and her two remaining puppies were sent to different foster homes. But Aja spent a day or two with her pups and was not aggressive to the resident dogs with barriers between them.
Aja loves people andwhen in a home, desparately wants to be out with them.  Unfortunately in her foster home, she gets limited time out and enjoys every minute of it.  With time and patience she may be able to live with a male dog.  Her reticience with other dogs is not too surprising since the only interaction she probably had with other dogs at the puppy mill was when it was time to conceive. She is a very sweet girl, but a little anxious at times, mostly when she hears people and cannot interact with them.  Aja has adjusted to her crate training; she caterwauled quite a bit in her first few days. What she really craves is to be with people and she loves to go for walks. Aja is incredibly bright and talented and since she wants to please, learned to sit on command in 2 days.
Aja's puppy bearing days are now behind her and she is ready for "retirement" and spending days as someone's loving companion.  Aja deserves her happily ever after and we look forward to seeing her settled in her forever home.  If you want to be her "retirement" home and enjoy this petite girl's adoration, contact us !!!
