About Gin

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $300.00
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 13 Years 11 Months (best estimate)
  • Location: MD
Gin, who is estimated to be 5 years old, will be a gorgeous fawn with heavy black overlay (sable) and white Boston markings when she has fully recovered from the neglect.  She is quite aloof when you first meet her.  Gin has had a very rough life, it is unclear if she ever had a good life.  She may have been used for breeding, but her last home was plain neglectful which is when we were contacted.  The son of a woman lived at the home where Gin lived and he fell in love with her.  Though it took several months for him to finally get Gin away from the owner, she then went to another home.  We were then contacted again, Gin was not getting along with the small dog in the home and they wanted her out immediately! With no foster space available we had no choice but to put her into a kennel.

As you will see in the pictures, Gin was hairless when we took her.  But she is starting to grown-in fur, with little tufts of hair coming in on her back legs and there are some wispys beginning to appear on her tail.  The kennel owner's husband spends a lot of one-on-one time with Gin, she is very affectionate and friendly with him.  It is obvious she has been lingering in a backyard for years.

Gin is currently on a non-allergenic diet and was treated for fleas upon arrival.  She has also been wormed (tapeworm, along with fleas can cause this type of hairless condition).  Stress will cause this hairless condition as well. She does pull on leash and will need some remedial training in a new home.

Gin has recently been spayed and will be arriving in a foster home after the holidays.  We would like a few weeks of her being in a foster home, with further evaluation before placing her available for adoption.  There is a lot we don't yet know about Gin and her likes/dislikes, this time gives us the opportunity to get to know Gin so that we can find her the very best home possible.

Gin is very sweet and loving with her foster parents.  She pulls a little on leash, but has improved tremendously.  She loves "talking" and some of her vocalizations sound like R2D2..funny girl.  She MUST be an only pet.  She does not like cats or dogs.  Gin's owner should be someone who has experience with Akitas who are very animal asocial.
