This is the Armac volintter's evaluation of Lincoln in the shelter.

I went and visited Lincoln today.  He was returned to the shelter after having been adopted out in October.  He was returned primarily due to no one having time for him and the fact that he has luxating patellas (particularly the right rear).

Unbeknownst to me, this was his second time being adopted out of the shelter.  The first time he was returned because the family had a baby and decided they didn't have time for him.  :(

Lincoln is just 2 years old.

Lincoln is a BIG (like 90 lbs.), beautifully striped fawn and grey brindle with black mask, white blaze and white markings.  He is sloppy, loose jointed, a leaner, laid back, goofy guy who has had little training.  That being said, for his size he is incredibly gentle.  He does give flea bites when he gets excited, but if you tone down the stimulation (petting and playing) he ceases.  He knows how to 'give paw'.

The second family had a fenced yard which I'm sure they let him run in and he probably torqued his knee which is why they had xrays done and part of the reason they brought him back was they were scared by the prospect of knee surgery.   They also commented that they corrected him by 'yelling' at him.  He will chew things from the garbage and chewed pillows.  He did growl/nip at the owner when they were doing something to their 2.5 year old child (reprimanding?).

While Lincoln didn't know 'drop' I was able to take toys out of his mouth, poke my fingers in his ears, hug him, pick up his feet and handle, pull on his tail (there may be some pain in his right hip), at which point he curled around in a comma to see what I was doing and just licked me.  I could run and rub my hands all over his body.

Lincoln does not know his name.  He will sit if asked enough times (possibly sore right knee).  He was behavior tested prior to adoption to family with children and passed.  Jenna said she would try to find those papers and send or she will ask Vivien to test him again with food.  He takes biscuits nicely and gives gentle kisses on chins.

This guy is just a BIG puppy, who needs someone who will take the time to work with him, watch his activity in a yard (lots of walking until the muscles are strengthened).  Seems to be good with kids.  Never been with other pets but responded in a friendly manner to dogs barking at him while walking down the kennel aisle.

It would be best if Lincoln's new owner had some prior Akita  experience

Since being at the kennel, we found that Lincoln is good with the other dogs at the kennel where he is currently being fostered and will come when he is called

The first two pix below were Lincoln in the shelter and the last two were taken July 2014

We would love to see Lincoln in a permanent or foster home.  Wouldn't you love to have this big cuddle bear living with you?
