Hinoki was wandering through a neighborhood, with a prong collar partially embedded and rope hanging.  Her tail had a "sleeve" injury/amputation which left naked bone sticking out the end.  After a few weeks, one of the neighbors managed to get Hinoki into her car and took her to the shelter.  She was immediately taken to a vet, shere she was treated and stayed for her "hold" time.  Because she was so depressed in the shelter, they asked rescue to take her...but we only had a two days until her euthanasia date.  We managed to find room for her at a kennel, just before Christmas mind you, and one of our volunteers picked her up.  Truly an Akit guardian angel was watching over her.  The pix of her are at the shelter after treatment.  the others are her in her foster home.  Here is the foster home report: Here she is now, Ms. Happy Dog. Hinoki is a delight. She is not aggressive to the dogs in crates when she is out on housetime, really wants to meet my pack, doesn't chase kitties unless they come near her food and then just chases them away, rides very well in a car, walks well on leash, knows how to sit..another food oriented dog. We have fallen in love with her. She saw the vet about her tail. The bone sticking out was dead and it is not painful. Since she also had a cracked tooth my vet just said she would amputate the bone when she removed the tooth .Age guesstimate...7-8 years. However, Ms. Hinoki "self amputated" her tail. We were out in the yard together, me cleaning up and her running around. When we came in, I noticed her "stinger" was gone from the tip of her tail and there was a little blood on the end. Called my vet who said if she was not bleeding profusely to put pressure on it and put her on antibiotics until she came in for her dental. Then she would look at the tail and see if it would be good as it is or if she would have to do some repair. So far, so good. Fingers crossed it heals and there is no sloughing of the skin. She will have a "bunny" or bob tail, which she wags with abandon.
