Chassie is an adult male Akita who was initially picked up as stray.  The animal control staff found a microchip implanted in Chassie that was registered.  When AC contact the owner on several occassions he said he would pickup Chassie but the owner never came.  On the final call, the owner stated he no longer wanted Chassie, that is when ARMAC was contacted.

It was noted immediately upon Chassie's arrival at the shelter that he had something wrong with his left rear leg, he was not bearing weight on it.  After being examined by two difference vets it was agreed that Charlie most likely had a partial or complete tear of the ACL.

Until such time as we are able to get an absolute diagnosis for Charlie and he undergoes surgery/treatment and fully recovers, Charlie is "on hold" for adoption.  However, given the costs involved in the treatment of such injuries, we are accepting donations to help Charlie.

FOSTER HOME UPDATE  11-7-2013 With my husband Charlie having the same name, we renamed the dog Charlie Chazzie.  His first couple of days were a little rough.   I picked him up in the shelter and there was an "Oh by the way...he tried to get out of the run in isolation and broke a tooth and tore a toenail....we put a nice calm female in with  him and then he was fine."  I felt a little discouraged.  The one thing we cannot test for is  separation anxiety...and did we now have an anxiety dog and if so how bad?  He rode well in the car and I noticed he was putting weight on his left rear leg and there was not a noticeable limp.  Once home, he did not want to go in the crate, but I finally got him in.  He cried and pawed at the door non stop.  I took  him out later and when I tried to get him back in the crate...by standing over him with my arms around his chest and pushing in, he growled and not necessarily snapped, but was opening and closing his jaws.  I put him back out.  Charlie came home, we disassembled the regular crate and assembled the "doggie condo".  This is crate is HUGE.  then we both managed to get Chassie in the crate.  The next time he went out, it was less difficult to get him in.  He still whined and cried all night, but was not digging at the door.  There are two other dogs in crates in the same room and one roaming loose at night, so he had some company.  The next day, we could get him in the crate just by leading him in on leash.  Now, 3 days later, he goes in with just a collar lead, although he sometimes balks.  He is not food motivated...sigh.  He has more moments of quiet than whining and no pawing at the door now.  I was really worried that we had a dog with bad separation anxiety...but things are definitely looking better.  Today he "woo-woo'd" outside for me...see the pix.  Saturday he is seeing the vet for his rabies shot and an evaluation and I will be making an appt to have his surgery done.  He ignores my kitties, no aggression shown to my dogs and is a nice laid back guy for the most part.   The early days can be rough with some dogs and then things smooth out, which is why we always tell adopters the first 4 weeks with your dog may be the worst in your lives.  Chassie's adjusting earlier and that makes life easier for us all. 

11-29-2017 His first vet visit was not a total success.  I was attempting to move him around so he could be examined and he grumped at me.  He is one of those very self contained dogs who does not like to manhandled by strangers.  Once her realized we were okay, ha turned into wiggly dog.  He has come a long way since that vet visit.    he alos greets us every morning with WOOO.  He also talks to us when he wants to go out.  I gave him  rawhide chew which gave him diarrhea.  No more rawhide  for him !!I looked through our doggy box and found a stuffed fuzzy bone with a squeaker.  He loves it !!  Now he tries to talk with the bone in his mouth and it is hilarious.

Chassie has not been limping.  He is being neutereed 12/10 and I will have my vet thoroughly check out his leg while he is out.  He has an occasional"odd kick in his gallop", but stands with weight on his leg, and stands on it to pee.
