Hi ! My name is Oso, but I am called Osito, or Osie Dosie. To get so many nickname so quickly makes me very special, no? I was a stray in Puerto Rico. I had a shoulder injury and was being picked on by the local dog pack. Ms. Vivian Acevedo rescued me and became my guardian angel. I was heartworm positive, thin and had a limp from my injury, probably due to being hit by a car. I was treated for the heartworms, had my shoulder evaluated and was then transported to ARMAC for adoption.
After arriving in Virginia I was taken to another vet (SIGH) who had seen my xrays previously. He said I had adapted very well to my injury, which has left me with a mechanical limp caused by limited motion and a slightly shorter leg because of the way my shoulder healed. He really manipulated my shoulder and leg and said I appeared to be in no pain. He said I should be fine until I get old 10-12 years and may have arthritic problems then...but many dogs that age get arthritic problems.
Oso is great dog, really funny personality, and LOVES his toys. I must say, for his age he just loves to play and enjoy life. He takes some time to warm-up to you, and prefers women to men, but when he gets to know you he is extremely affectionate.
Oso is not fond of being crated, but he doesn't resist and is very well behaved when crate. He doesn't like being hugged, but loves to be scratched behind his ears and on his back. For a dog is that is partially lame, he has no problem zooming around and play bowing.
Oso gets along with the resident female dog, but the introduction process was taken very slowly. He is very interested in chasing cats, so NO CATS! Oso is very good on leash, pulls little if any, and loves his walks. His limp gets more pronounced the longer he is walked but he recovers quickly. He enjoys car rides. Given his dislike for hugs, he would do best in a household with older children, 12+.
Oso is a great overall dog, with no behavior problems, very clean, anxious to please, and just a terrific boy. I have no doubt that once you get past his permanent limp you will fall in love with him!
