Puccini aka Pucca was found with her sister, Zoe on a deserted road. They were running down the highway, trailing huge towing chains that were attached to collars made of wire. The rescuer stopped, picked them up, and took them home. Over 100 ticks were removed from the puppies, they were riddled with fleas and intestinal parasites, so badly anemic their gums were gray. They were half the weight they should have been. Their savior thought they were Akitas or possibly Akita mixes and contacted rescue. No one reported missing puppies or claimed them, so they were turned over to rescue. They are now continuing to gain weight and becoming the healthy, happy puppies they should be. Although not purebred Akitas, they have many of the mannerisms: the imperial paw, stalking like a cat, not barkers very quiet in the house. We made them "Honorary Akitas".
Puccini is the more independent of the two, liking to go her own way. She is also the more predatory and will not be placed with cats. She loves to play with toys and enjoys hanging out with the humans in the house, often displaying the Akita habit of "talking" to you. She is affectionate and enjoys quiet time being petted.
6-5-10 The longer I foster these guys, the more I am convinced they are at least half Akita. They display so many Akita mannerisms. They are both very affectionate and love being cuddled.
