Rio,aka Ryu, came into rescue with his companion, Cosmo.  The owners turned them over because they were moving.   Both dogs were pretty malnourished.  The hair on their abdomens and the inside of their legs was caked with old, dried urine.  They reeked.  Their personalities, however, seem to be very sweet.  Rio obviously had something wrong with his paw when he was picked up.  Two of our regular vets and the orthopedic surgeon said it was an old injury (maybe the beginning of May).  Because of the location of the break (just above the wrist), re-breaking it and setting it may or may not have a positive outcome.  If no positive outcome, then his leg would have to be amputated.  The surgeon took a more conservative route and decided to leave it alone. He told us to walk him very slowly so he would use the paw.  We will return in two months to see how he has done.   Rio is crate trained, in the process of being house broken, pretty good with my kitties ( as long as they don't run, he won't chase them), not exhibiting aggression to my dogs, rides well in a car.  He will be available aftere he is neutered and re-evaluated by the surgeon.
